Daran Bland, Executive Head for The Spalding Special Schools Fellowship, ran 26.2 aching miles of the London streets this year and raised a whopping £2,000 for Action for Children. Action for Children provide support to many of the pupils at The Spalding Special Schools.
Daran, “The entire day was fantastic from start to finish. People I know, who have completed the London Marathon in previous years, have described the buzz you get from the thousands of spectators and how right they were!”
Daran trained for 6 months prior to the event and was going great guns until the 20 mile barrier hit, “All was going well for me until 6 miles left to go and then both of my legs began to cramp up. The pain was eye watering! But then you are given this incredible lift by so many people cheering and urging you on, then off you go again!”
Daran completed the full marathon in 4 hours and 40 mins and raised his full target of £2,000 for Action for Children.
“I would like to thank all those that sponsored me, helping me reach my target. All the money raised will be donated to Action for Children. I was also lucky enough to meet marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe! What a weekend!”
