Forest Schools

CIT - Community Inclusive Trust. Where learning comes first

Across CIT we believe that everyone is unique and deserves to have a first class education and be provided with innovative approaches to support their learning. We have a responsibility to ensure we stimulate and engage our pupils appetite to learn, enabling them to continue their outstanding lifelong learning.

One of our approaches to outstanding learning is our Forest School. This is a form of ‘Outdoor Learning’ that helps enthuse, engage, educate and provide great memories for all our pupils.

CIT Academies has its own Forest School based just outside of Grantham, Lincolnshire.

There are wheelchair accessible pathways throughout our Forest School, with sensory stations based along sensory circuits with quiet areas and some with bamboo musical instruments. There are fire pit areas and spectacular outdoor classroom areas made from natural materials and positioned within the centre of the Forest School, taking advantage of all the wildlife around. There ia a small orchard and vast amounts of wild flowers, along with bat boxes, bird boxes and brash fencing, inviting an abundance of wildlife in.

Our Forest School is an outstanding facility that is accessed by all CIT schools local to it. Isaac Newton Primary School has its own Forest School on site, as does Woodlands Academy and Tulip Academy Spalding.

All areas of the curriculum across CIT Academies benefit from pupils being able to access these wonderful natural environments.

Forest School learning is delivered across the Trust by qualified Forest School Practitioners. The benefits to pupils are vast and include:

• Confidence building and independence.
• Physical fitness.
• Health benefits.
• Improve Mental Health and Wellbeing.
• Exposure to manageable risk and empathy for others.
• Better sleep and mood.
• Team building.
