CIT Academies lead the Universal SEND Offer as RISE projects reshape education across the East Midlands

CIT - Community Inclusive Trust. Where learning comes first

The East Midlands is a region defined by its diversity – of landscape, community, and opportunity. At the centre of these communities are the region’s schools, working every day to break the link between background and life chances. Collaboration has long been a defining strength of the area, and the RISE programme is taking this to a new level.

In 2025/26, the RISE Universal Grant launched with a £1.4 million national investment to accelerate projects designed to deliver sector‑wide improvement. Its mission is clear: raise attainment in English and Maths, strengthen inclusion, enhance Reception Year quality, and boost attendance across the system.

CIT Academies: Leading the Universal RISE SEND Offer for the region

Among the four major projects now underway, CIT Academies is leading the region’s Universal RISE SEND Offer, placing inclusion firmly at the forefront of school improvement. CIT’s programme is driving a consistent, high‑quality approach to SEND across the East Midlands through:

  • Rigorous SEND Reviews supporting schools to remove barriers and raise expectations.
  • Virtual CPD delivering accessible, expert-led training for staff across all settings.
  • A collaborative SEND and AP Network, connecting mainstream, special, and alternative provision to share practice and build collective expertise.

This leadership positions CIT as a central force in shaping an inclusive, ambitious regional education system.

James Ellis, CIT’s Director of SEND Education:

“It’s an absolute privilege to lead on the Universal Rise SEND Offer. We are really excited about the project and believe this will further enhance the quality of SEND practice within the East Midlands. Furthermore, the creation of fully funded online SEND CPD modules will provide the region with an ongoing Professional Development resource.”

Three further projects supporting regional excellence:

Alongside CIT’s SEND work, three additional RISE projects are advancing national priorities in the East Midlands:

  • Priority Literacy Project – led by Flying High Trust
Raising English standards and strengthening Reception practice through high‑quality CPL, targeted diagnostic tools, and a new Early Writing framework.
  • Infrastructure Development – led by Inspiring Leaders
Building a Digital Universal Offer Hub to widen access to CPD, alongside leadership forums and a series of innovative school‑based pilots.
  • Early Learners’ Strategy – led by Learners’ Trust
Improving EYFS provision through detailed provision audits, practitioner workshops, and a sharper focus on language development for the most vulnerable learners.
