With thanks to Friends of Sandon and Ambergate (FOSA) who supported with funding, GANF were able to host Lincolnshire Music Service, Orchestras Live and Sinfonia Viva, across both campuses last week to deliver school-based music sessions and interactive musical performances.
‘Together Through Music’ was developed to support the changing education provision for young people with additional learning needs in the county. The focus of the project is on young people and the development of their identity as creative musicians. The project also concentrates on the network between classroom teachers, music coordinators and community music leaders.
Across both campuses pupils took part in small group instrument sessions such as trumpet, violin, keyboard, sensory drums, and karaoke. They also enjoyed a musical performance in the main school hall delivered by Lincolnshire Music Service and Sinfonia Viva where they were able to get involved too.
Daley Barber-Allen Headteacher said: “As a school we felt quite passionately about taking part in the Together Through Music programme. We are all about inclusion and wanted our pupils to experience this wonderful hands-on day of activities.
I have watched some pupils completely come out of their comfort zones, taking to the stage and singing, dancing, or playing a new instrument. Music can be used in a way for young people to communicate and express themselves. That is exactly what has happened in school. What an amazing opportunity for them.”
Andrew Hird, Inclusion lead for LMS commented: “This has been a wonderful opportunity to see the joy music brings to everyone. During the concerts the young people joined in with singing, body percussion, playing instruments, moving and dancing. It was a joyous festival experience, and I look forward to working with the schools to ensure the pupils can progress their musical and communication skills with instrumental tuition available for all.”
