History of the Tournament
2022 saw the first CIT inter-school football tournament, as Ambergate Sports College (GANF) ran out victorious to take the trophy on a short journey home from The Grantham Meres 3G football pitch.
The following year welcomed an expansion to the competition with the tournament separated across two days for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 teams. Ambergate added to their trophy cabinet as they won in the older age group, whilst Foxfields Academy were champions in the younger age group.
Last year saw a new name on the trophy as Greenfields Academy won the Key Stage 3 competition. Meanwhile, Foxfields became the first team to win both competitions as they edged past GANF in the Key Stage 4 league format.
Rivalries resume
Football has been missing derby matches this Summer with the Club World Cup failing to capture the imagination of the sporting world.
Keep your eyes peeled for three local derbies this week including:
GANF vs Greenfields (2 miles apart)
Boston Endeavour Academy vs Woodlands (17 miles)
Bowman vs Foxfields (19 miles)
History to be made…
Whilst Bowman Academy are making their debut in the competition, it will be a final appearance for GANF who are due to become Newton Bridge Academy in September.
