Students engage at QuestionTimeNK debate

CIT - Community Inclusive Trust. Where learning comes first

QuestionTimeNK is a two-hour-long event based on the BBC’s national programme, but with young people asking questions to the panel of experts.

Kesteven & Sleaford High School took Year 10 and 12 students along to join their peers from seven other secondary schools from across North Kesteven, to take part in the debate hosted at the District Council Offices in Sleaford on Wednesday 3rd December 2025.

The event was hosted by BBC radio presenter Melvyn Prior with the panel consisting of:

  • NKDC Council Leader – Cllr Richard Wright.
  • Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for North Kesteven – Inspector Rachel Blackwell.
  • Director of Collison Associates – Martin Collison.
  • Professor of Student Engagement/Dean of Teaching and Learning at the University of Lincoln – Professor Kate Strudwick.

Some of the topics covered included preparing for an AI-driven future, drugs, and whether rising student loan costs are discouraging young people from attending university.

The event gave students an opportunity to explore political awareness as they near voting age.

Teacher, Katy Stokes, Assistant Headteacher, said:

“Our students had a wonderful time and really engaged in the content, which ranged from Higher Education course options to local policing, severe weather plans and solar farms.

The quality of the questions was outstanding – and there were lots of opportunities to share personal opinions and thoughts throughout the event. The panel were open, warm and knowledgeable, sharing their expertise and opinions with all the students.”
