Two ‘outstanding’ schools will officially become one

CIT - Community Inclusive Trust. Where learning comes first

Ambergate Sports College and Sandon School have worked together for over 13 years. From January 1st, 2024, they will officially become one school with Ambergate Sports College closing and being merged with Sandon School. The organisation will then be known as Grantham Additional Needs Fellowship (URN: 141254).

To reassure parents, the operation of the school sites will remain as they are.

The merger comes as part of Lincolnshire County Council’s ‘Building communities of specialist provision’ strategy. Creating an integrated system where pupils attend their nearest school where their educational health and care needs are met.

Lincolnshire County Council has made significant investment in both schools over the past five years so that they can provide more places to meet the increasing demand and offer provision for all types of needs and disabilities.

A consultation to merge the schools was held in 2018 and now with the building works complete, the official merger date has been set for the New Year.

Peter Bell, CEO of the Community Inclusive Trust, said:

“The merger of Ambergate and Sandon has been planned for many years and as part of this exciting project, both schools have received significant capital projects which has included additional classrooms and therapy spaces, as well as specialist facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool. We are excited for the school to take the next step on its journey.”
