Isaac Newton School awarded Lincolnshire School Games Commitment & Achievement award

CIT - Community Inclusive Trust. Where learning comes first

2019-20 proved to be another exceptional sporting year for Isaac Newton Primary School in Grantham, as they were awarded the Lincolnshire School Games Commitment and Achievement award for providing a wealth of opportunities in numerous sports for their pupils.

The school, who achieved the School Games Platinum Award the year previous, entered an average of one competition a fortnight before COVID-19 curtailed the sporting fixture list. However, they continued to promote physical activity and wellbeing into the summer term with a range of virtual opportunities, including their Marathon19 challenge and Virtual Sports Day.

Ellie Atter, Sports Leader at the school, commented:

“At Isaac Newton we are firmly committed to the local school games competition and festival calendar. During the autumn and spring term of 2019-2020 we entered 11 competitions; including netball, football, cross country, golf and volleyball. This allowed over 130 children the opportunity to compete locally against other schools.

Our volleyball team won the regional competition, which resulted in a County Final at Lincoln University before being crowned overall winners and County Champions.

All of these opportunities would not be possible without the support from Terry Plumb and Sharon Bray, our local area School Games Organisers. We are incredibly proud of all our pupils, their commitment to sport and physical activity is fantastic!”

Chris Heathcote, Headteacher, added:

“At Isaac Newton we value PE and sport highly and recognise the benefits that it has for our pupils’ mental and physical health. We have an ongoing history of sporting success and this is down to the incredible work of our dedicated PE team.

We try to ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to represent our school, helping them to develop an understanding that success and reward comes through hard work, training and determination. We are therefore very proud to have our ongoing commitment to the Lincolnshire School Games recognised in this way.”
