On 10th February 2022, Ambergate pupils had a very exciting visit from Peterborough United Football Club.
Courtesy of Matt Wainwright (parent and school governor), Ambergate welcomed Former Peterborough United defender, Bobby Copping to deliver an assembly and pose for photos with pupils and staff. Bobby bought along Peter Burrow, the club mascot, who the children loved!!
Bobby Copping had to retire from professional football due to a diagnosis of a debilitating head injury at just 19 years of age. He is aiming to turn his story of adversity into one that will benefit others through providing unique mental health support to players, families, and staff within elite sport.
Bobby and Peter entertained the school with a dancing competition (flossing). They started with the staff team (Mr Maltby and Mr Caress were not good!) and Mrs Gardner was the clear winner! Then it was pupils against Mrs Gardner and the pupils were the winners overall!
Bobby and Peter kindly handed out Ambergate’s weekly awards and had their photo’s taken with the pupils, before heading out to the school field where pupils were presented with a new sports kit provided by Four Seasons Future Planning .
Bobby and Peter offered the school community free tickets to Peterborough United vs Reading on Wednesday 16th February 2022.
Ambergate Sports College are very grateful to Peter and Bobby for taking time out to visit, and would also like to thank Four Seasons for donating the children’s new sports kit.
