Poplar Farm Primary School celebrated the impending opening of its brand new facilities with a Teddy Bears Picnic for the first cohort of pupils set to begin school in September 2018.
The state-of-the-art setting is based in north-west Grantham within the Newton’s Place housing development.
Pupils gathered on the school field along with their families and favourite teddy bears who were dressed in a range of imaginative attire for the picnic. They were then given the opportunity to meet their peers and teachers through a series of fun games and activities that were delivered by Poplar Farm staff.
A range of stations including glitter face painting, giant Jenga and football fun were available for families to enjoy, whilst local provider – Brightstars were also present with a series of activities as they introduced themselves to the pupils before beginning the Poplar Farm School Wraparound Care Provision in September.
All of the pupils went home with a special surprise after being presented with a brand new teddy bear, sponsored by David Wilson Homes who are one of the housing developers on the new estate.
Bev Hall, David Wilson Homes East Midlands Sales Director said: “We were delighted to be able to support this event which will help the new pupils of Poplar Farm School settle into their new school before term starts.
“As we are building homes at Newton’s Place, many of our residents will benefit from having a school onsite and we wanted to give the pupils something they could keep and treasure long after the event had finished.”
The event concluded with the owners of the three ‘Best Dressed Teddy Bears’ being awarded a prize from the Principal Designate, Jenny Wheeldon.
Mrs Wheeldon explained:
“We wanted to offer our new pupils a chance to get to know each other prior to September. The weather stayed dry and everyone had a fantastic afternoon! It was lovely to meet all the families and to see our Class of 2018 playing and having fun together. Thanks to David Wilson Homes for donating the teddies for the children.”
She added, “I am so proud to be part of such a fabulous, committed and hardworking team here at Poplar Farm School. We can’t wait to open our doors on Wednesday 5th September.”
